• ILLEGAL HUNTING – MORE FUNDING NEEDED FOR RURAL CRIME INVESTIGATORS

    28th January 2016

Mark Pearson has previously warned that the number one concern for farmers is illegal hunting trespass, with research backing his claim. The terrible story today of dogs in the firing line is just another example of when the situation escalates to the point of a physical altercation between hunter and farmer.

800-IMG_9805j-mark-Pearson-M-P“Since being elected to the NSW upper house last year, my office has received a steady stream of calls from distressed and angry landholders about illegal hunting on their properties.

Callers describe the lawlessness of weekend warriors entering remote properties and shooting anything that moves. I have heard stories of bullets flying in all directions and the terrible suffering of animals with hunting dogs left for dead after sustaining injuries from wild pigs. One landowner was devastated to discover dozens of dead and dying native animals such as kangaroos, wombats and even echidnas after a night of blasting away by booze-fueled thugs.”

It is time for the Minister for Police, Troy Grant, to provide additional resources to Rural Crime investigators so that they can stamp out this appalling illegal hunting before it takes a greater toll on human and animal life.

  • MARK PEARSON CALLS PREMIER MIKE BAIRD & MINISTER NIALL BLAIR TO ACT FOR ANIMALS STILL SUFFERING AT KOALA PARK SANCTUARY SYDNEY

    20th January 2016

Mark Pearson is calling on NSW Premier Mike Baird and Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair to support an online petition with over 25,000 signatures which requests the NSW government to cancel the license of Koala Park Sanctuary in Sydney and re-home the still suffering animals to rescue sanctuaries. The petition was started by a NSW activist and will be sent to the Minister with a supporting letter from Mr Pearson.

koala-park-sanctuary-sydney-koalaThe so called sanctuary again came under scrutiny in August 2015 after a history of neglect since 2010. In November 2015, Koala Park Sanctuary Sydney located in Pennant Hills entered a plea of guilty to three charges of failing to provide veterinary treatment to five koalas in its care. The charges were laid by the RSPCA and related to the failure to investigate emaciated body condition and eye complaints, and the failure to provide treatment for dehydration and chlamydia infections.

“I asked the Minister back in November Question Time given the proven breaches of the standards, why has the departmental secretary not exercised his authority under section 30 (1) (a) of the Exhibited Animals Protection Act to cancel the park’s licence? The Department has discretionary powers that should be enacted to protect these animals from further suffering and neglect.

The park has history, a history the Department of Primary Industries is fully aware of yet the park is still open, the animals still suffering and the owners still profiting. The public are not prepared to sit back and await the outcome of February’s court hearing, they want the Minister and Department to act immediately in the best interests of the animals still residing at Koala Park Sanctuary.”

  • SYSTEMIC LIVE EXPORT CRUELTY

    8th January 2016

The vast majority of people in Australia (83%) and now the citizens of an importing country, Israel, have made it very clear that they completely oppose live exports and imports based on the inevitable egregious cruelty and suffering that will occur. Yet Barnaby Joyce, the minister responsible for propping and ramping up this disgusting trade, demonstrates utter contempt for Australian citizens and ignores the ongoing international condemnation of this trade.

It is time the government listened to the people of Australia who elected them and relegate this brutal, unacceptable trade to the scrap heap of history, and, along with it, export Barnaby Joyce to a place where he can have no say or influence on how animals are treated.

  • COROWA PIGGERY CRUELTY

    18th December 2015

I attended the largest piggery in Australia, Rivalea’s Corowa piggery and demanded an immediate halt to the gassing of 4,000 pigs a day where each pig suffers abuse according to world expert.

After repeated efforts to raise the issue with NSW Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair and Rivalea senior management regarding pigs suffering from ineffective gassing I decided to take the matter directly to the people responsible.

Clearly there IS something to hide. We drove along PUBLIC land and used drone footage to capture the intensiveness of the scale, the severity and the lack of transparency. This is a blight on humanity.

  • RIVALEA’S COROWA PIGGERY GASSING 4,000 PIGS A DAY

    18th December 2015

I had previously written to both Rivalea and Department of Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair to seek an escorted visit to the piggery and slaughterhouse. The visit was to be primarily focused on testing the gas mixture used to stun the pigs before being killed. Both the Minister and Rivalea rejected my offer, the latter sighting NO reason for the basis of the rejection. The Police were called in to investigate while other government authorities and their agents turn a blind eye.

Mark Pearson, Animal Justice MLC of NSW parliament states:

“I am attending Rivalea’s piggery and abattoir today because both the company and NSW Department of Primary Industries have refused a formal inspection with me to investigate the egregious cruelty inflicted on thousands of pigs every day: 4,000 today; 20,000 this week and hundreds of thousands since evidence was first exposed early last year.”
